DON’T GET SCAMMED BY SHABBY CONTRACTORS! nToday, we share a true story from one of our clients' experiences that underscores the importance of vigilance and choosing reputable professionals. Prior to contacting us our client began navigating the world of renovations through referrals and the Kijiji platform. Multiple quotes were obtained, but one contractor, Pierre, stood out. Pierre's prompt responses, enthusiasm, and willingness to meet in person despite being out of town created a positive first impression. At every turn, Pierre provided answers that showed commitment to the project and professionalism. He came fully equipped in a uniform armed with slogans and offered practical solutions for the space. He further impressed the client by utilizing a phone app for measurements, claiming his company invested in cutting-edge technology. Project details, a sense of urgency, and enticing incentives, including Home Depot discounts, left the client in awe. They accepted the proposal and paid a substantial deposit upfront, all without seeing the design. nSo they start the work, only to find that Pierre is avoiding them after ripping out their kitchen and flooring. At first, he offered simple excuses, building up to heavier lies of hospitalization and car accidents to emotionally manipulate the client. At this point, they began to really get suspicious and researched even more after continuous back and forth with Pierre. Reality hit hard when the contractor's fake identity was exposed. The invoice displayed a different company name than the shirts and website, which turned out to be real but completely unrelated to Pierre’s fake company. Everything that seemed legitimate began to unravel, the social media had fake followers, the reviews were all fake and within a 3 month period, and so on. The client reached out to the Police for help. However, involvement became challenging, and reversing e-transfers proved difficult, giving scammers an advantage. The key lesson here is clear—meticulous contractor research is essential. Don't pay without proper contracts and designs, and don't rush your project. Take your time and be cautious.n#bydvkitchens #millwork #kitchendesign...
