Oh, they're cute.....but they can cause a lot of damage, very quickly. I've heard it said that a mouse can get in through a hole the size of a dime! A rat, the size of a quarter. Basically, if their heads can fit through an opening, they're coming in! With cooler nights, rodents don't move south, they just move into your house, where it's nice and cozy. Mice multiply quickly, having about 50 babies a year. And those babies are capable of giving birth in about 4 to 7 weeks. Yikes! You do the math. They carry disease and parasites, and their droppings and urine can be toxic - let alone all the damage they can do, chewing endlessly. Walk around the perimeter of your house and seal up even the smallest holes that could be a point of entry. Keep in mind that rodents and raccoons are great climbers, so make sure your chimney is capped properly. Squirrels and raccoons can easily access a chimney or the attic, so inspect your chimney and cap, roof, and soffit and fascia regularly. All of these critters will chew through wiring (fire hazard), and make a mess by building nests anywhere they can. I've seen some real messes in attic spaces!
