Where did they go? This question is twofold. Sellers who just bought a house in a strong seller’s market only a week earlier fear the worst when there are fewer or no showings and no offers on their property. Where have the buyers gone? Nearly 108k people moved to other provinces and territories in the calendar year 2021—the most since 1981. Why? The federal government recently announced this year’s budget which includes measures like increased tax credits intended to help buyers. The budget also includes policies designed to address the supply shortage. However, it will take at least 3 years to start to see the effects of the supply-side housing measures. This is where the budget falls short and misses the target. What about supply for right now? I get real about my opinion on what can and should be done right now for more immediate results.
