If the tree has enough space, then it is possible to cut the tree down in one piece. The trunk is cut from the direction that it needs to fall. Once the tree has fallen to the ground, it is then cut up into smaller pieces. If the tree is close to buildings or power lines, then this method isn't practical or safe. In these cases, the tree would be scaled, and branches cut off individually from the top down. If necessary, these will be secured with ropes so that they don't fall into power lines or onto buildings.
