FAQs

How do I know if my basement needs underpinning?

In most cases, if your basement is showing signs of cracking or settling, then it may need to be underpinned. Other signs that suggest you need underpinning include bowing walls and sloping floors as well as moisture in the basement. If you are uncertain, contact a professional for an assessment.

Are there any safety concerns associated with underpinning?

Yes, there can be safety concerns related to underpinning such as the risk of collapse or structural damage due to poor workmanship. It is incredibly crucial to hire an experienced and reputable company who adheres to safety regulations in order to avoid any potential risks. As one of the largest basement underpinning companies in the GTA, we take safety incredibly seriously.

How long does waterproofing take?

The time range depends on a number of factors, including the severity of the leak, the source of the leak, the type of foundation, etc. The job could take anywhere from a day to weeks to complete. Also note, if you need work done on your foundation, you will need to wait for the ground to be dry, meaning you will have to try to keep the basement as dry as possible until you find a period without rain for the waterproofers to start working on the repair.

Do I need to get a backwater valve and a sump pump?

If water already got into your home, chances are you would first need to repair the entry points. However, if you do not have proper drainage, water will continue to pool and water will eventually find its way back in. The backwater valve and sump pump are proactive measures to re-route the water away from your home (sump pump), and make sure it cannot get back in (backwater valve).

What are some benefits of concrete?

Here are just a few of the many benefits of using concrete: it is cost-effective (especially if you are looking to cover a larger area), it can boost the value of your property, and it eliminates moisture and humidity (preventing mold from growing).
