We discovered this mouse entry point into the basement of a home in Ancaster on a recent inspection. The vent opening was for a discontinued dryer exhaust vent. The homeowner had previously rerouted the exhaust vent as part of a basement reno. The opening not only allowed cold are to get into the basement but mice since chewed the vent louvers to gain access to the vent duct and from there the basement ceiling. They were even using the old duct to stash peanuts they found in the neighbourhood. A reminder to check on exterior vents as a possible entry when dealing with a mouse problem and to make sure you properly air seal the exterior of your home after renos.
